Training
Several conventional as well as modern equipments are used for training purpose. Conventional equipments like Sextant, Station Pointer, Chain and Modern Marine equipments like GPS, DGPS, Theodolite, Total Station, Smart Station, Automatic and Digital Level, Echosounder etc which are also very costly, are used for training. In addition to that, the Institution uses Departmental Vessel for training on sounding and other purposes. Hands on experiences in handling Modern Hydrographic equipments such as ADCP, Side Scan Sonar, Sub Bottom Profiler, ATG and Sound Velocity Profiler (SVP) has also been included in the course syllabus. Modern software like Hypack is used for training in acquisition of raw data and processing of collected data.
Hypack (Hydrographic Software):
HYPACK is the software used in the hydrographic and dredging industry. It provides hydrographic surveyors with all of the tools needed to design the survey, collect data, process it, reduce it, and generate final products. Whether collecting hydrographic survey data or environmental data HYPACK provides the tools needed to complete the job. With users spanning the range from small vessel surveys with just a GPS and single beam echosounder to large survey ships with networked sensors and systems, HYPACK gives the power needed to complete the task in a system the surveyors can master.
COURSES
Basic Hydrographic Survey
KIHAS has been conducting job-oriented course of Basic Hydrographic Survey, which is of duration 06 months theory including practical and 06 months on-job training at six (06) various sub offices of Hydrographic Survey Wing, Govt of Kerala. However, the on-job training is not mandatory for those who are already experienced in the field. Students who have successfully passed 10 + 2 in any subject or ITI in any branch can apply and if selected can pursue this course. This course is a very helpful to those who are in search of a job in marine field, especially those who have a background of ITI / Diploma / Civil Engineering.
Total Station +GPS + AUTOCAD
KIHAS also conducts classes on Total Station Survey + GPS +Auto Cad of duration 15 days for ITI Civil/ Diploma Civil/ B Tech Civil students.
