Kerala Institute of Hydrography and Advanced Studies (KIHAS) was initially established by the efforts of officers and staff of Hydrographic Survey Wing (HSW), Govt of Kerala and started functioning from April 2013 in the campus of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) Panangad PO, Kochi. Kerala Institute of Hydrography and Advanced Studies was constituted as a Society as per GO (Rt) No 97/2014/F&PD, dated 03 Feb 2014 and functioning as an independent society since 01 April 2014 under the supervision of Officers of HSW. Director of KIHAS is the Chief Hydrographer, Hydrographic Survey Wing, Govt of Kerala. The Special Officer who is also the Course Co-ordinator, manages the institution. Kerala Institute of Hydrography and Advanced Studies (KIHAS) have been conducting the course of Basic Hydrographic Survey at the campus. The examinations including practical for the course is being conducted under the supervision of the Special Officer and the certificates are issued after scrutiny of the mark sheets by the Chief Hydrographer who is the Head of the Hydrographic Survey Wing. This course will drastically increase the chances of obtaining placements for the students in reputed private companies and government sectors.
